North Shuts Out South, 5-0; Vermont’s Benevento Tabbed All-Star Game MVP
North Division All-Stars vs. South Division All-Stars
Final Score: 5-0
Sanford, ME - The North Division All-Stars took a 5-0 win over the South Division All-Stars on Sunday night. 1,134 people were present for the All-Star festivities on a sunny Sunday in Goodall Park.
James Love (Upper Valley, Eastern Illinois) started the scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI double to put the North up 1-0. The next inning, Alex Benevento (Brown, Vermont) swung at a 3-0 offering from Alex Payne (Lafayette, Danbury) and sent it over the left field wall to double the lead.
The North threatened with runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the sixth. That was, however, until a phenomenal catch in foul territory by Max Farrell (San Diego State, Ocean State), before throwing out Jacob Harring (Salve Regina, Sanford) who tried tagging up from second base.
JJ Parsons (UNC Greensboro, Vermont) added to the North's lead in the bottom of the seventh with a bloop RBI single to left field.
The next inning, the North added two more insurance runs via a Nater Wachter (UConn, Sanford) RBI single, as well as a sac fly from Hunter Kingsbury (Bryant, North Shore).
"It was such a fun night," Benevento commented after the game. "So many people coming to support, it's really them that makes the summer so special."
Sanford wraps up the All-Star events at Goodall Park claiming the North Division Manager Nic Lops, North Division Fan Vote Selection Drew Smith (UConn) in its 25th year as an organization.
