Carpenter and Krzysiak Collect NECBL Week 2 Player and Pitcher Awards
The New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) announces the Week 2 Player & Pitcher of the Week honors, including honorable mentions for the week concluding on Sunday, June 14th.
Sanford Mainers shortstop Troy Carpenter (Maine) and Keene SwampBats right-handed pitcher Brody Krzysiak (Kent State) earned the league's weekly awards after strong performances.
Carpenter, a native of Kathleen, Georgia, continued his strong start to the summer by leading Sanford to a 5-2 record during the week. The UMaine Black Bear batted .385 with a 1.087 OPS and collected 17 total bases over seven games Carpenter recorded six extra-base hits over this past week, including five doubles and a triple which came off the bat at 104.8 MPH and travelled 372 feet. Sanford's shortstop capped the week off with a two-double game in their 11-3 victory over the North Adams SteepleCats on June 14. Through the 2026 season, Carpenter is batting .308 with an .851 OPS. This performance follows an impressive freshman season at Maine, where he started 55 of 56 games, led the America East Conference with 16 home runs, drove in 53 runs, and earned America East All-Rookie Team honors.
Krzysiak, a native of Bay City, Michigan, was dominant out of the Keene bullpen during his two appearances this week. The Kent State right-hander earned a save in both outings and did not allow a hit across 6.1 total innings. After throwing two scoreless innings with two strikeouts against Sanford on June 8, Krzysiak followed with one of the league's most impressive relief appearances of the season. Against the Valley Blue Sox on June 14, he struck out 10 of 13 batters faced over 4.1 hitless innings to secure his second save of the week. Krzysiak's fastball touched 94 MPH, while both his fastball and slider hit spin rates of over 2700. Krzysiak is coming off a junior season at Kent State in which he struck out 33 batters in 32 innings and earned Mid-American Conference Academic All-MAC Team honors.
The Sanford Mainers (7-3) and Keene SwampBats (5-2-1) currently hold the first and second spots in the North Division standings, with Keene sitting just one game back from the top. The SwampBats travel to face the Upper Valley Nighthawks tonight at 6:00 p.m., while the Mainers are off today before traveling to face the Ocean State Waves on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Both matchups will be available to stream live on NECBL+.
