Newport, RI – It was a dominant performance by the Sanford Mainers as they defeated the Newport Gulls at Cardines Field in game one of the Fay Vincent Sr. Cup Championship. Mainers’ starting pitcher Connor Ball (Alabama) was brilliant on the mound, earning the win and tossing seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits with five strikeouts.

At the plate, Colin Barczi (Vanderbilt) led the offense going 3-for-5 with two RBI on the night. Blake Schaaf (Georgetown) also went 2-for-5 with two RBI to power the Mainers’ offense. Jackson Tucker (St. John’s) also recorded three hits on the night for the Mainers.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Gulls finally broke through as Jack Doyle (Northeastern) hit an infield RBI single, but the 15 hits were more than enough to help the Mainers defeat the Gulls on the road Wednesday night, 7–1.
