Suppa was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 26th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Entry Draft. He has competed often provincially and nationally in his native Ontario, Canada. He was a member of the Canadian Junior National 18U team in 2010 and 2011. In 2010, he won a silver medal with the Ontario 17U Youth Team, sporting a 0.00 ERA at the Canada Cup.

Jose returns to the Mainers for another summer season. In 2011 for Canisius he appeared in 54 games, making 52 starts as the team's starting second baseman. Named to MAAC All-Tournament Team. Named MAAC Rookie of the Week on May 2, after going 7-for-9 in three-game series at Rider. Raised his average 123 points during the final 38 games of the season and hit .303 with 17 runs scored, nine doubles and 14 RBI during that stretch. Hit .306 in conference play.

In 2011 named the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week for March 25. Ranked second in the MAC with 18 doubles, and that total is the third most in a single season in Buffalo history. Had 16 multi-hit games, including two games with four or more hits. Matched a single-game program record after getting five hits against North Carolina Central, including two home runs and five RBI.
