Valley Secures 5-4 Comeback Victory in Extra Innings
Christopher Willis (Quinnipiac) knocked in the go-ahead run in the tenth inning en route to a 5-4 victory for the Valley Blue Sox (9-9) over the Bristol Blues (7-10) on Tuesday night, helping Valley maintain first place in the Western Division.

BRISTOL, Conn. - The Valley Blue Sox (9-9) defeated the Bristol Blues (7-10) 5-4 in extra innings at Muzzy Field on Tuesday night.
Valley struck first with an RBI single by Matthew Bergevin (Fairfield) in the first inning. Bristol took a 2-1 lead in the third inning with an RBI triple by Gavin Noriega (Bryant), who later scored on a sacrifice fly by Dixon Black (Wofford). Daniel Hussey (Central CT St.) extended Bristol’s lead with an RBI double in the sixth inning.
The Blue Sox forced extra innings after scoring two runs in the eighth to knot the game at two. Eliot Dix (North Carolina Chapel Hill) scored on an RBI fielder’s choice by Matthew Bergevin, who later scored following an error by the shortstop.
After a scoreless ninth inning, Valley took a 5-3 lead in the tenth inning with an RBI double by Christopher Willis (Quinnipiac) and a run scored by Drew Metzdorf (Creighton) following a wild pitch.
An RBI single by Billy Sullivan (Southern CT St.) brought the Blues to within one in the bottom half of the tenth inning, but it wasn’t enough to come out with a victory.
Zach Cameron (Niagara) was credited with the win after pitching 3.0 relief innings, allowing just one run and one hit along with four strikeouts to seal a 5-4 victory for the Blue Sox.
Valley will travel to Danbury to face the Westerners at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday night, while the Blues host the Vermont Mountaineers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday night.
Newport Gulls 9 - Keene Swamp Bats 1
KEENE, N.H. - The Newport Gulls (14-3) defeated the Keene Swamp Bats (5-10) 9-1 on Tuesday night behind a dominant pitching performance.
Newport jumped ahead 3-0 in the third, with Samuel Kulasingam scoring on a Trent Farquhar double to start the rally, moving Billy Butler (URI) to third, who later scored on a wild pitch.
Newport led 4-0 in the ninth, before piling on five more to make it 9-0. The rally started with Kolby Branch scoring on a wild pitch, followed by a three-run RBI double by Matthew Schark (Southern Illinois Carbondale) and an RBI single by Noah Smith (Louisville).
Keene got on the board in the bottom of the ninth on a Brayden Horton (Liberty) solo home run to cut the lead to eight, but Newport’s nine runs were too much for the Swamp Bats to overcome.
Newport starter Santhosh Gottam (Brown) earned the win, throwing six shutout innings and allowing just two hits with three strikeouts on the night. The relief tandem of Garret Simpson (Wright State), Nick Boyle (Xavier), and Grant Umberger (Virginia Tech) pitched a combined three innings of one run ball, allowing three hits, and striking out four.
Newport will look to keep their winning ways in a Wednesday night showdown with the Danbury Westerners in Danbury, as the Swamp Bats look to rebound with a Wednesday night clash with the Ocean State Waves.
Ocean State Waves 6 - Mystic Schooners 2
SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. - The Ocean State Waves (9-8-1) defeated the Mystic Schooners (10-7) 6-2 at Old Mountain Field on Tuesday night.
Ocean State took an early 3-0 lead with a two-run homer by Drew Holderbach (Rice) in the first inning and a sacrifice fly by Garrett Howe (Samford) in the second.
Mystic cut the deficit to one with an RBI single by Anthony DePino (URI) in the fourth inning and a sacrifice fly by DePino in the sixth.
The Waves extended their lead to 6-2 with a three-run sixth inning, highlighted by a Garrett Howe RBI single and a run scored by Khyree Miller (Charleston) following a wild pitch.
Ocean State starting pitcher A.J. Colarusso (Boston College) threw four innings and allowed just two hits and one unearned run on the night, helping the Waves seal a 6-2 victory.
The Waves hit the road to face the Keene Swamp Bats at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday night while the Schooners will travel to Sanford to face the Mainers at 6:30 p.m.
Sanford Mainers 15 - North Shore Navigators 10
LYNN, Mass. - The Sanford Mainers (8-9) defeated the North Shore Navigators (7-11) 15-10 in an offensive onslaught at Fraser Field on Tuesday night.
North Shore scored the game’s first run on a sacrifice fly by Tanner Zellem (Tennessee), but the Mainers quickly answered with four runs in the second inning, highlighted by Kevin Skagerlind’s (Massachusetts Amherst) two-run single which scored Matthew Polk (Vanderbilt) and Calvin Hewett (Vanderbilt).
Devan Bade (SUNY Binghamton) hit a sacrifice fly and Jeremiah Jenkins (Maine Orono) added a two-run double to extend Sanford’s lead to 7-1 in the fourth inning.
North Shore stayed within striking distance after a solo home run by Brandon Drapeau (St. Joseph’s) and a two-run double by Matthew Chatelle (Merrimack College) in the fourth inning.
With the Mainers clinging to a 7-5 lead through four innings, Devan Bade hit a three-run blast as part of a five-run sixth inning, his fourth RBI of the night.
Sanford added three more runs in the seventh to take a commanding 15-7 lead, finishing the night with every batter reaching base safely. Nicholas Roselli (Binghamton) and Devin Russell (Maryland College Park) were among six Mainers to record multi-hit performances.
The Navigators cut the deficit to five with a ninth inning three-run homer by Evan Griffis, but the Mainers bullpen closed the game to seal a 15-10 victory.
Sanford will host the Mystic Schooners at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday night while the Navigators hit the road to face the Upper Valley Nighthawks at 6:00 p.m.
Vermont Mountaineers 5 - Martha’s Vineyard Sharks 4
MARTHA’S VINEYARD, Mass. - The Vermont Mountaineers (12-4-1) defeated the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks (6-10) 5-4 at the Shark Tank on Tuesday night.
The Sharks took an early lead, scoring two runs in the second, with a Scott Seeker (Mt St. Mary’s) RBI double, scoring Carsten Sabathia (Georgia Tech) and Matthew Maloney (Dayton) for the first runs of the game.
Vermont responded with three in the fourth, with TJ Williams (Notre Dame) getting the rally started with a two-out double. He scored when the next batter, Marshall Toole (Wofford), smacked a single to drive him home. Toole later scored along with Grant Voytovich (Bucknell) on a Nate Stocum (Western California) two-run double.
The Sharks tied the game in the seventh, with Kadan Martin (Miami) scoring off a Xavier Esquer (Arizona) sacrifice fly.
The Mountaineers again jumped out to a lead in the eighth, with Voytovich driving in Evan Fox (SUNY Stony Brook) and Toole on a two-run single. Vermont held off a Sharks rally in the ninth inning to secure their twelfth win of the season.
Vermont will host the Bristol Blues on Wednesday night while the Sharks will look to get back in the win column as they head to North Adams to face the SteepleCats on Wednesday night.
