Mountaineers Fall to North Adams

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The Vermont Mountaineers fell on the road against the North Adams 6-2 on Thursday night at Joe Wolfe Field. The SteepleCats have won three of five games against the Mountaineers this season.

The Mountaineers did not waste any time scoring first. Tommy Courtney (UPenn / Mahopac, N.Y.) bunted the first pitch of the game and ended up scoring after multiple errors were committed by North Adams. 

In the third inning, the Mountaineers added a run on an RBI single by Courtney. Craig Larsen (UPenn / Toms River, N.J.) singled and scored on the Courtney single to extend the lead to 2-0 in favor of Vermont. 

In the next half inning, the SteepleCats responded with runs of their own. The inning started with three straight batters reaching base. John Marti grounded into a fielder’s choice which scored, Lucas Donlon. The next batter, Jeremy Lea lined an RBI double down the line then Charles Middleton ripped a two run double to right field. Through three innings, North Adams led 4-2. 

The SteepleCats were able to tack on two more runs on a two run double by Lea. The extra base hit for Lea extended the North Adams lead to 6-2 over Vermont. 

With the win, the SteepleCats improved to 13-11-2 on the season. With the loss, the Mountaineers fell back to .500 at 13-13. 

The Mountaineers will be at home on Saturday July 17th when they take on the Sanford Mainers for a doubleheader. They will resume the previously suspended contest from July 7th with first pitch at 4:30. The Mountaineers will also play the regularly scheduled 9-inning game after the conclusion of game one.
