Schooners manager Phil Orbe to speak at Convention, held Jan. 15-17

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) is pleased to announce its plans to participate in the 2015 Mohegan Sun World Baseball Coaches’ Convention, held Jan. 15-17, 2015, at the Mohegan Sun Convention Center in Ucasville, Connecticut.

The New England League will join a blockbuster lineup of presenters during the three-day event and will add its presence to the exhibit hall with a special league-specific booth for all in attendance.

Mystic Schooners manager Phil Orbe is scheduled to speak at the convention. Entering his fourth season with the Schooners, Orbe has helped transform Mystic into one of the steadiest franchises in the league in terms of on-field performance. He orchestrated one of the league’s best-ever season-to-season turnarounds from 2012 to 2013, as the Schooners won 12 more games the following summer. Mystic has qualified for the postseason in back-to-back seasons, and Orbe helped five Schooners earn all-league recognition and coached the league’s batting champion this past summer, while 12 of his former players have been drafted by Major League Baseball (MLB) franchises.

A number of head coaches from some of the top baseball coaches in the country, including University of Maryland head coach John Szefc, University of Connecticut head coach Jim Penders and Georgia head coach Scott Stricklin, will attend the convention as well. Each has contributed a number of outstanding student-athletes to the NECBL over their tenures and will share their knowledge at this world-class baseball coaches’ clinic, which attracts about 1,000 baseball coaches to the Mohegan Sun Convention Center each year.

The 12th annual Mohegan Sun World Baseball Coaches' Convention will take place at the spectacular Mohegan Sun Convention Center in Uncasville, Connecticut, from January 15 - 17, 2015, and will feature a blockbuster line-up of presenters, including:

  • 4-Time World Champion & 5-Time MLB All-Star Pitcher Jack Morris
  • Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame Pitcher Bruce Hurst
  • MLB Players Nick Ahmed of the Diamondbacks, Eric Campbell of the New York Mets & Dominic Leone of the Mariners
  • Boston Red Sox Bench Coach Torey Lovullo
  • Atlanta Braves Hitting Coach Kevin Seitzer
  • Boston Red Sox Mental Skills Coach Bob Tewksbury
  • Strength & Conditioning Specialist & Cressey Performance Founder Eric Cressey
  • Velocity Special & Toronto Blue Jays Consultant Jamie Evans
  • WFAN's Talk Baseball & Sirius Radio Host Ed Randall

In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to visit the Exhibitor Zone (which attracts more than 80 leading-edge companies showcasing the very latest in baseball technology) and catch up with their fellow coaches for three days of baseball talk.

Be sure to visit the NECBL booth to learn more about one of the best summer collegiate baseball leagues in America that annually has more than 80 alumni selected in the MLB Amateur Draft. NECBL alumni include: Stephen Strasburg (Nationals), Joe Nathan (Tigers), Rajai Davis (Tigers), Andre Ethier (Dodgers), Jeff Frazier (Reds), Chris Iaanneta (Angels), Brian Wilson (Dodgers) and Jed Hoyer (GM, Cubs).
