Saratoga posts franchise's first NECBL victory
SARATOGA SPRINGS - It was an historic night at East Side Rec in Saratoga Springs.
The Saratoga Brigade defeated the Keene Swamp Bats 6-1, posting the franchise's first victory in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. It is also the first NECBL win ever for a team from New York, in the league's 20-year history.
Right-hander John Prendergast (Shenendehowa/Ithaca) was the main story, throwing six shutout innings to earn the win. The Clifton Park native allowed just four hits and struck out five. It's the second straight dominating performance for Prendergast. In 13 2/3 innings pitched this season for Saratoga, Prendergast has allowed just one run, 10 hits and struck out 10. The Swamp Bats (2-6) were led by JP Sportman (Schenectady/Central Connecticut), who finished 2-for-3, with a RBI sacrifice fly and a double.
The Brigade host the Danbury Westerners in a doubleheader on Thursday at East Side Rec.
