Holyoke Adds Talented Two, Keller and Nowak
Holyoke, Mass. (Tuesday
April 22, 2008) – Two more highly regarded collegiate ball
players have signed with the Holyoke Sox this week, as
junior right handed pitcher Josh Keller (Oregon State
University) and sophomore pitcher/outfielder Jeremy Nowak
(Stony Brook University) are the two newest members of the
NECBL’s newest team.
Keller, who resides in Portland, Oregon, is in his third
season with the reigning National Champion Beavers and has
become a big contributor. In nine appearances, the 6’4” 240
lb. righty has an ERA of 4.72 but is 3-0 for his 18-13
Oregon State team.
Following a dominant 2006 season at Lower Columbia Community
College, a year in which he was named all-NWAACC first team,
all-division first team, regional tournament Outstanding
Pitcher; he carried a 10-0 record, 0.55 ERA, in 94.2
innings, allowing 49 hits, 20 walks, and tallying 84
strikeouts, he joined Oregon State and saw limited action.
He was part of a no-hitter by committee on January 25, 2007
going two perfect innings, and striking out two batters.
He will be joined in the Sox bullpen by the athletic Jeremy
Nowak. Nowak, a 6’1” 197 lb. right hander from Cheektowaga,
N.Y. has played in all 31 Seawolves’ games this year,
pitching in thirteen of them. In those thirteen appearances
he has a team leading ERA of 2.78, a 4-1 record, six saves
and 33 strikeouts in 32.1 innings pitched.
His numbers so impressed the members of the National
Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), he was one
of 45 relief pitchers included on the midseason watch list
for the fourth annual Stopper of the Year Award. The award
is given to the top relief pitcher in Division I college
baseball.
Nowak has also been impressive at the plate as well for
Stony Brook, hitting at .295, and is leading the team in
hits (36), at-bats (122) and RBI (27). His bat earned him
America East Conference Player of the Week honors for the
week of April 7, in which he hit .588 with four doubles, a
homer and eight RBI. He went 3-for-5 with four RBI in Stony
Brook's 11-9 win over Binghamton on Saturday and then went
3-for-4 with a run scored in the 5-2 victory over the
Bearcats on Sunday. Nowak also helped the Seawolves on the
mound, earning a save in each of the first three contests of
the Binghamton series.
