McDONOUGH BLANKS MAINERS;
SANFORD’S SEASON ENDS IN 1-0 LOSS AT LOWELL
LOWELL,
Mass. – Chris McDonough pitched a complete-game, eight-hit
shutout to lead the Lowell All-Americans past the Sanford
Mainers 1-0 in NECBL action at Stoklosa Alumni Field on
Wednesday afternoon. Tom Stack-Babich’s RBI single in the second
inning provided the only scoring of the ballgame. With the win,
Lowell (20-23) advances to take on the Concord Quarry Dogs later
this afternoon; the winner of that game will advance to the
NECBL playoffs. With the loss, Sanford’s (19-24) season comes to
a close.
The All-Americans scored the only run of the game in the bottom
of the second inning. Miguel Magrass led off the inning with an
infield single on a weak ground ball down the third base line.
Magrass stole second base and then scored two batters later on a
single into left-center field by Tom Stack-Babich.
Eric Katzman (Michigan/Harrington Park, N.J.) pitched a
complete-game two-hitter but took the loss (3-2) for Sanford.
Over six innings, he gave up one run, walked one, hit a batter
and struck out five.
Chris McDonough pitched a complete-game, eight-hit shutout to
earn the win (3-3) for Lowell. Over seven innings, he walked
nobody and struck out one.
