Holyoke Sox Continue to
Expand Roster
Holyoke,
Mass. (Monday April 14, 2008) – The Holyoke Sox continue to add
impressive prospects to their roster as they have announced the
signing of junior outfielder Allen Bolden of Lipscomb University
and freshman infielder Ray Quinones of UNC-Greensboro.
Bolden, a Nashville, Tenn. native, is currently second on the
Lipscomb team in a number of hitting categories including
average at .336, five homeruns, 27 RBI, and twelve doubles. Last
year in his sophomore season he was a big contributor for the
Bison as he was fourth on the team in batting average at .306
and hits with 56. He was also third on the squad in
on-base-percentage with a mark of .378.
Bolden, who stands at 6’1” and 190 lbs. was heavily recruited
out of Overton High School as he was sought after by such
programs as Belmont, Vanderbilt and Vol State.
Ray Quinones, from George Washington High School and New York,
NY, is a freshman infielder with a ton of potential. During his
high school career he earned three varsity letters for the
Trojans under Coach Steve Mandl at shortstop. He was a Rawlings
all-American and a Rawlings North East all-region selection,
appearing in the North East Top Prospect games, and was named to
the New York all-state team.
Quinones had some trouble adjusting to the speed of the college
game in the always competitive Southern Conference, but has
begun to come around with that bat, hitting at .283 with five
homers and 24 driven in and has started at shortstop in 33 of
the Spartans 34 games this season.
COO/GM Barry Wadsworth said of the recently acquired duo, “with
this pair we are able to get two things every team needs. In
Bolden we get that veteran, experienced presence from a junior
that can be looked to as a leader. And in Quinones, there is
just so much upside and ability that it would be hard to not
give him an opportunity this summer.”
