Giants Clinch
Playoff Spot with Win vs. Lowell
HOLYOKE, MA -
The Holyoke Giants (22-13) defeated the Lowell All-Americans
(13-20) tonight by the score of 3-2 in a classic pitcher's duel.
The Giants' offense put the first run of the game on the board
in the second inning, when Jake Christman drove in Craig Turner
on a single. Holyoke struck next in the third inning, which
Justin Little led off with a single. He moved to second on a
groundout, and after Kyle Bellows was hit by a pitch, they both
scored on a double by Kody Hightower.
Two days after pitching in the NECBL All-Star Game, Shawn
Gilblair got the start for the Giants. He pitched seven strong
innings, allowing only two runs on seven hits while striking out
seven. He was relieved in the eighth inning by Chicopee native
Sean Bergeron. He pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.
Closer Dan Grubbs came in for the ninth and was able to preserve
the lead for his eleventh save of the season.
The Giants will be in Concord tomorrow night to take on the
Quarry Dogs. Mike Thompson will take the mound looking for his
sixth win of the season. The Giants will be home again this
Thursday, July 26 to take on the Vermont Mountaineers at 7:00pm.
