Explodes for 3 Home Runs, Thompson Ks 11.
Torrington, CT (July, 16 2007) In a battle of first place
teams Holyoke Giants (19-12) soundly defeated the Torrington
Twisters (18-10) by a score of 15-1.
From the very first pitch it was apparent that the Holyoke
Giants were determined to stop their 3 game losing streak.
The first 3 Giant batters scored highlighted by a Kody
Hightower RBI single. Later that
inning DH Mike Walczuk came up with runners on 1st and 2nd
and smashed a long home run over the leftfield fence to cap
the 6 run 1st inning.
The Giants struck again in the 4th when Jack Cawley singled
home Hightower. The very next inning Right Fielder Mike
Provencher connected for the Giants? second home run,
driving in 2.
Holyoke kept the heat on in the 6th inning when Cawley led
off with a home run. They did not stop there as the Giants
added 4 more runs in the 6th, the big hit was a bases loaded
2 run double by pinch hitter,
Jake Christman.
Not to be forgotten in Holyoke's offensive breakout was
starting pitcher Mike Thompson. Thompson pitched 5 strong
innings allowing 5 hits, 1 walk, 0 runs, and striking out a
Giants season high of 11 batters. At one point Thompson
struck out 6 batters in a row, striking out the side in the
2nd and 3rd innings. Chicopee's Sean Bergeron pitched a
inning of scoreless relief and struck out 1. Josh Crevlin
pitched 2 innings allowing 1 run and Heath Wayslow closed
the game out.

The Giants next game is tomorrow night at 7:00pm when
Holyoke plays host to the Newport Gulls. If you bring canned
goods to the game you will receive free admittance. Then on
Saturday the 21st it is Holyoke Miller Throwback night at
Mackenzie field. Giants players will be wearing throwback
jerseys!
