Head Coach Mike Marron Returns For Second Year

March 25, 2008) – The Pittsfield Dukes are pleased to announce that Head Coach Mike Marron will be returning to Wahconah Park for the second straight year. He currently is an assistant coach of the UMass Lowell River Hawks baseball team.

Marron hopes to continue the positive success that the Dukes showed during the second half of the year last season.

“With the momentum we took in the last half of last summer, I feel excited about the direction of the team and the organization," Marron said. "There's a lot of potential to make a lot of good things happen this summer.”

The former standout out Holy Cross catcher comes into his second season as skipper with high expectations.

"I'm excited about the group I have" coming this summer, he said. "We're getting players from some very strong programs. That's going to help us right off the bat."

Marron, who also is an English teacher at Malloy Alternative School, received a lot of praise by Pittsfield Dukes President Dan Duquette during the announcement of his return.

"He's a really good role model for the players and the organization," Dukes president Dan Duquette said when announcing Marron's return. "He is a very dedicated baseball man. I liked the way he represented the team and dealt with the players. We're happy he's coming back."

Both Duquette but especially Marron are excited about the talent of the players coming to play at Wahconah Park this year.

"There are players (coming) from all over the country. It doesn't have that New England feel," added Marron. "I'm excited about the group I have. We're getting players from some very strong programs."

The only returning Duke is Tyler Stampone. He is batting .370 for William & Mary after transferring from Holy Cross.

You can catch Marron send out his new crew on June 9th as the Dukes host the Danbury Westerners at historic Wahconah Park.
