Westerners Lose Second Game to Streaking
SteepleCats By Anthony Buzzeo
After defeating Holyoke, 3-2, to complete a suspended game from
earlier in the season the Danbury Westerners hopped back on the
bus and headed to North Adams for a matchup with the SteepleCats.
This one would not go the Westerners way as they dropped the
game 8-3 allowing North Adams to win their fifth game in a row.
North Adams jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Catcher Joe
Pavone knocked a single into shallow right scoring John Schultz
from second with two outs in the first. The SteepleCats tacked
another run in the third on a RBI single from Schultz giving
North Adams a 2-0 lead.
Their lead jumped out to four when Jamie Shevchik brought the
infield in with runners on second and third with one out and Bo
Reeder stepping up to the plate. Reeder sent a 1-2 pitch into
shallow right field plating both runs extending the SteepleCat
lead to 4-0.
After the Westerners picked up runs in both the fifth and the
sixth, Andrew Aizenstadt got into trouble giving up base hits to
the first two batters of the bottom of the sixth ending his
disappointing night.
Charlie Benson came in and got the first two batters out and
then a groundball to Mason Heyne at first would completely
change the inning. Heyne fielded the ball hit by Schultz went to
flip the ball to Benson, who could not make the play scoring one
run, Brandon Macias then sent a pitch flying off of the left
field fence extending the North Adams lead to 6-2.
Brach Davis the starting pitcher for the Westerners continued
his dominant ways as he brought his “A” game to Joe Wolfe Field.
Davis shut down the Westerners through the five innings he
pitched striking out four on two hits and only allowing one run
picking up his fourth win in the process.
There were not too many bright spots for the Westerners who
constantly found their pitchers in trouble and few rallies
killed by costly outs, however Pat Fortunato went 1-2 with a RBI
and run scored. Stephen Montalbano also threw a 1-2-3 inning of
relief picking up a strikeout.
The Holyoke Blue Sox won their second game on Thursday as well
tying back up with Danbury for the fourth spot in the Western
Division. The two teams will meet at Rogers Park 6:30pm Saturday
for a one game playoff, with the winner moving on to play Keane
and the loser going home.
